SHE’S GOT NEXT
Bracket Basics 2010
By Courtney B
patsummit Back at it again but then again why wouldn’t I be - Been gone for a while now I’m BACK! MOC sports fans and just in time for MARCH MADNESS!!!! The NCAA’s season crowning event and my absolute favorite time of the year besides Christmas and summer time in New England. (Nothing quite excites a Bostonian like sunshine and something other than nine months of 30-degree weather.)
After assisting-coaching my own high school team to the final round of the Massachusetts Girls State Basketball Tournament (Shouts Out to the Fenway High School Lady Panthers) only to take a loss; (that was extremely hard to swallow) the beginning of March Madness was just the right medicine to ease any pain still lingering from our finals (graceful) bow out of the 2009-2010 season.
March Madness is especially special this season because with the hectic-ness of the life of a high school coach, I missed a good deal of this year’s NCAA basketball season. I caught a few good ones during the season on the men’s and women’s side of things but did not get as engrossed in college hard court action as in prior years of my hoop junkie past. I stayed connected enough to know that Tina Charles, Maya Moore and the Lady Huskies remained untouchable and catapulted UConn into another realm of women’s college basketball. And that John Wall was on the tip of every sportscaster’s tongues and in the nightmares of every SEC squad’s backcourt.
genomaya  Yet and still tournament talk for 2010 on the Men’s bracket still seemed unpredictable even up to the opening tip of this year’s tourney (Kansas early upset shook up many fans brackets) - reinforcing no real apparent solid faith from broadcasters in even tournament favorites. Not really surprising when at multiple times during the course of this season sportscasters entertained conversations that had to do with “The State of College Basketball” and the NBA; insinuating that the USA wasn’t producing basketball talent like in former decades. Women’s bracket action talk wasn’t that much different. Geno  Auriemma’s squad unequivocally being the tourney favorite as they continue another undefeated season with a 60-something point spanking of Southern University for their 72nd consecutive “W” in the opening of Women’s play on Sunday. Sportscaster’s and college hoop fans and critics alike debated much of the 2009-2010 season over in essence, “Is UConn just that good? Or is the women’s college game just that bad?”
finalfourEither way the NCAA tournament is in full effect as we enter “Sweet 16” competition, which will be twiddled down to an “Elite 8“ and then to the famous Final Four before championship play. No matter where you stand on the state of college basketball debate one thing is for sure; a whole lot of college hoops action is in order! Ill be rocking with my girl, queen of the court, Pat Summitt, and her Lady Vols; (Tennessee is the only team to play in every single NCAA tournament in the history of the NCAA), praying for a monumental upset of historic proportion with the de-throne-ing of King Geno and his Lady Husky Court. Let the Madness continue! Who’s your favorite?!

Wassup MOCRadio Family! Welcome to the wonderful world of SPORTS! Courtney B style! Thanks for stopping through to this spot. – There are a few things I’m die hard passionate about in life like I am about this Music/Media Industry, My Young People, …(Cue the RUN DMC) ..”My AH-DID-AS!”, and MY HOOPS! Grew up on kickball, soccer, dodge ball, hide and seek, bare foot races down the street and up trees with my younger sister and the neighborhood boys; TLC, Aaliyah, Cross Colors and the Hat2Da Back movement! Needless to say I was a little-lotta bit of a tomboy! ;)  Fell in love with b-ball the summer before my freshman year of High School and had a passionate love affair, (filled w/sprained ankles, nail biting games, life-long teammates, sisterhood, blood sweat and tears, crazy coaches, and hoop dreams) until my Junior year of college when those dreams were deferred and the face of our affair changed forever…but now in hindsight … changed also for the better.                              Forced to grow up and trade in my high-tops for “high heels” ; (think LL Cool J’s “Around the Way girl” mixed with Musiq Soul Child’s Girl Next door, part MC Lyte and Sana Lathan (Love & Basketball), Angela Simmons, with a dash of the coach’s daughter in “Remember The Titans”;(Hayden Panettiere). I began to focus on school & what would be my future career in music, sports, media and entertainment. Soon the student became the teacher, the ball-er became the coach, and the FAMU J-school undergrad began her pathway to a preferred future to media mogul-hood. And although my relationship with the game changed, my love for it never did. PRESENT DAY “HI my name is Courtney ….and I’m a Hoop-a-holic…”. Addict might actually be a better word! I also am a sports junkie but I’m not your average sports fan…and no not just because I’m a girl…excuse me…WOMAN!  Don’t get it twisted I can talk numbers, stats & facts, and break down plays and trade deals with the best of them….(and we shall) but that’s just bracket basics, surface level stuff and everyone talks about that…there’s so much more to dissect when it comes to our favorite teams and larger than LIFE professional athlete personas and characters…and booooooy are there plenty of those! Politics, entertainment, sex, money, race, music and SPORTS –  and who better to dish on it all but a sista from one of the most historic sports cities in the world! She’s Got Next is giving birth to a new age of sports column writing – straight up, urban, hard nose reporting, street but sweet , with a tomboy twist! Ladies our time has arrived…. Fellas I hope you’re listening … because SHE’S TALKING and SHE’S GOT NEXT………
